ALBANY — An upstate whitewater-rafting company has been fined $25,000 for sending boats down the Hudson River in the Adirondack Mountains with an unlicensed guide after a judge told the outfitter to stop doing it.

Justice Richard Giardino ordered Hudson River Rafting Co. to pay $5,000 for each of five trips this summer where licensed guides are required by the state.
