WESTFIELD, N.J. — Whitney Houston was buried next to her father Sunday in a private service at a New Jersey cemetery.

While her “home going service” Saturday in Newark was a star-studded event that drew more than a thousand mourners, Sunday’s service at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J., was limited to family members.

Houston died Feb. 11 at age 48 in a Los Angeles hotel after years of struggle with drugs and alcohol. Her cause of death has not been officially determined.

She was laid to rest next to her father, John Russell Houston, who died in 2003.

Fairview Cemetery was closed to the public during the service, according to the Star-Ledger. Several nearby roads were closed or only allowed limited parking Sunday morning as local police departments and a private security firm worked to ensure privacy for Houston’s family.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who attended the memorial alongside celebrities such as Tyler Perry, Kevin Costner, Stevie Wonder, BeBe Winans, Alicia Keys, R.Kelly and Dionne Warwick, ordered that the state’s flags be flown at half-staff Saturday in honor of Houston, a Newark native.
