Vegan shoppers across the Northeast, including in New York, may have mistakenly chowed down on chicken after more than a dozen Whole Foods supermarkets sold mislabeled vegan and non-vegan salads.

The company revealed yesterday that labels for chicken salad and the vegan “chick’n” salad were reversed at some stores’ cold-food bars.

The mislabeled salads — a curry chicken salad and a curry vegan salad — were on sale in 15 stores, Whole Foods admitted.

Libba Letton, a spokeswoman for the premium supermarket chain, said the mix-up was discovered by an employee in the prepared-food section at one of its stores.

Whole Foods is issuing a recall and plans to post signs in stores today alerting customers to having sold mislabeled salads.

The company said no illnesses have been reported.
