A songwriter’s son charged with killing his girlfriend in a Meatpacking District hotel has lost a wrongful-death lawsuit after failing to answer the claim.

A court order filed yesterday grants a default judgment against Nicholas Brooks.

He pleaded not guilty to murder in the 2010 death of Sylvie Cachay.

Cachay family lawyer Susan Karten says it “will follow him for the rest of his life.”

Brooks never hired a civil lawyer or answered the suit himself. His lawyer didn’t respond to a message.

Brooks’ father was “You Light Up My Life” writer Joseph Brooks.
