Wing man helps hurt hawk
It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . . no. It’s an injured hawk.
The wayward bird slammed into a lower Manhattan building and crashed down to earth right in front of James O’Connell, who was walking along Pearl Street.
He brought the injured bird to the quarters of FDNY Engine Co. 6 on Beekman Street, where firefighters made a bed out of a cardboard box and cared for the bird.
Neighbors took the bird to an animal hospital. It’s expected to recover.
“I couldn’t just leave it their on the sidewalk,” said O’Connell, a retired Army sergeant.
