‘Wiseguy’ gets a ‘break’
A retired NYPD officer facing 20 years in prison on mob-related extortion charges has received permission to take a Caribbean vacation.
Dominic Caramanica — who allegedly found a new profession as a Genovese crime-family wiseguy — has been granted permission by Judge John Gleeson in Brooklyn federal court to take a vacation to Puerto Rico.
Since his January arrest in the biggest mob bust in US history, Caramanica had been required to stay in the area under terms of his $1 million bail restrictions.
The reputed mobster’s lawyer, James Froccaro Jr., said his client would return to face charges that he shook down a man who owed a debt. Assistant US Attorney Stephen Frank had objected to the trip.
