A Brooklyn woman was killed last night in a blaze that tore through her Fort Greene apartment, authorities and family members said.

Modesta Santiago, 55, suffered from heart conditions and diabetes that could have led to her having difficulty getting out of her second-floor apartment at 463 Dekalb Avenue, her daughter, Jeanette Morales said.

“She wasn’t doing well,’ said Morales, 38. “I thought she would go from her health, not like this.”

Her remains were found by firefighters inside the apartment after they had the blaze under control at 11:31 pm.

About 60 firefighters and 12 units responded to the emergency call.

Neighbor Roberto Arenas said Santiago “was very humble and a very outgoing person” who “made a lasting impression on everyone on the neighborhood.”
