A woman gave birth in the back seat of a car just steps from a Manhattan hospital during rush hour Friday morning, authorities said.

The baby was born in the vehicle about 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of East 98th Street and Fifth Avenue, right across from Mt. Sinai Hospital, officials said.

EMS responded and took the mother and her newborn on the short trip across the street to the hospital.
