Woman hit by SUV dies
An Upper West Side woman was killed yesterday when she was struck by an SUV backing into a parking spot, officials said.
Yolanda Casal, 78, was two blocks from her home when the vehicle hit her and a companion while they crossed the street.
“They had the right of way and that guy just kept backing up. He was trying to get that spot,” said witness David Gomez, 47.
Casal was pronounced dead St. Luke’s and her friend was in stable condition. The driver, Edwin Carrasco, 38, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, unsafe backing and failure to exercise due care.
