A woman in a wheelchair has been struck by a New York City sanitation truck.

Fire officials say the truck hit the 78-year-old woman Thursday morning in lower Manhattan, pinning her beneath the vehicle.

Officials say the victim was rushed to a hospital with critical head injuries.

Investigators say the motorized wheelchair and the Department of Parks and Recreation sanitation truck were traveling in a bike lane.

The incident remains under investigation.
