A woman leaped to her death in front of a Brooklyn subway train Wednesday morning in what appeared to be a suicide, police and fire officials said.

The unidentified straphanger was at the Bay Parkway station near 86th Street in Bensonhurst at about 8:45 a.m. when she jumped in front of a northbound D train, police said.

The woman, whose age was not immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A witness told the Post that the woman’s leg was severed when she was hit.

“I saw everybody looking up, and as soon as I walked across the street I saw the leg on the sidewalk in a pool of blood,” he said. “Some people were screaming. Some of the women were covering their faces. It was a nasty sight.”

“It was disturbing to see,” he added.

Nearby food vendor Basyouni Abuteba said onlookers were “shocked” by the apparent suicide.

“I feel sorry for the woman and her family. That’s a human being,” he said.

The woman’s identity was not immediately released pending family notification, police said.

Rush-hour service was briefly tied up after the incident while Manhattan-bound trains were rerouted past the station, the MTA said.

Regular service resumed about an hour later.
