A hit-and-run driver killed a woman in Brooklyn on Friday, the second pedestrian death of 2020, police said.

Maria Lorente, 70, of Mirarmar, Fla., was crossing the street near Flatlands Avenue and E 78th Street in Canarsie at around 1:30 p.m. when she was mowed down by a black Nissan Maxima, cops said.

She was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver fled the scene, authorities said.

The shocking security footage shows the sedan tightly turning onto east onto Flatlands Avenue and slamming into the woman as she was crossing the street before, and running her over, before speeding off.

Lorente was in town visiting her son, Jose Tapanes, for the holidays, according to Jose’s neighbor, who refused to give her name.

“She was a lovely woman. She was a family woman,” the neighbor said. “She went to church. She was a very pretty woman. She was always interested in clothes and looking nice.”

Before moving to Florida to retire, Lorente worked in the cafeteria of South Shore High School.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
