The woman who was bashed in the face with a glass bottle during a violent Bronx robbery told The Post on Sunday that she feared for her life during the ordeal.
Miriam Carona, 68, said she had just left a Chase bank on White Plains Road near Lydig Avenue in Pelham Parkway around 5:20 a.m. Oct. 6 when the mugger approached her from behind.
She heard his footsteps, turned around and the man immediately wrapped his arms around her neck, Carona said.
“I was so scared. I thought this man is going to kill me,” Carona said. “He pinned me up him very close and said ‘just give me your money, give me your money.’”
The mugger then clubbed her about six times in the face with a glass bottle and grabbed her cellphone, debit card and about $5 in cash, police said.
“He hit me so hard. He rocked me,” Carona said. “I was really out of it. My head felt numb. He hit me so many times and when I fell down he dragged me and for a moment I blacked out.”
After the mugger ran off, Carona flagged down two bystanders who helped her stop the bleeding from her head and called 911.
Carona was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center after the mugging and given nine stitches to close a wound on her head.
The suspect, described as about 6-feet-tall and in his 40s, has not been caught, cops said.
