The mother of an NYPD officer was fatally shot at her Queens home Wednesday afternoon after answering her door — and her alleged killer surrendered to police about an hour later, authorities said.
Anna Torres, 51, was shot twice, including in the head, by a gunman who drew her to the door of her two-story, single-family home at 94-59 109th Ave. in Ozone Park at about 2:30 p.m., cops said.
Torres was pronounced dead on scene. Two of her relatives were inside the home at the time of the fatal shooting, NYPD Deputy Chief Jerry O’Sullivan said at a Wednesday night press conference.
The suspect in Torres’ death, Giuseppe Canzani, 41, fled in a black Chevy Traverse after the shooting.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m., Canzani pulled up to the 106th Precinct in the same vehicle before exiting and placing a .45-caliber silver firearm on the sidewalk, O’Sullivan said.
Murder victim Anna Torres is pictured with her husband.
Two officers outside the stationhouse at the time arrested Canzani without incident. O’Sullivan said the suspect would be charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a loaded firearm, police confirmed early Thursday.
It wasn’t immediately clear what motivated Canzani to allegedly fatally shoot Torres.
While the two knew each other “to some extent,” the exact nature of their relationship was not immediately known and did not appear to be romantic, cops said.
He has no prior arrests, according to police.
The incident is the first fatal shooting in the 106th Precinct this year, police statistics show.
Three prior non-fatal shootings, with three victims, were reported so far this year within the precinct boundaries, statistics show.

A 31-year-old man was blasted multiple times in the back at the corner of 134th Street and Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 2, cops said.

Back on Sept. 6, Jermaine Dixon, 46, of Georgia, was gunned down on South Conduit Avenue near 132nd Street in South Ozone Park, cops said.
Dixon was entering his car around 8 a.m. when the suspect, dressed in Hasidic-style clothes, ran up to him and fatally shot him at point-blank range, according to video, police and sources.
Cops were investigating whether the suspect was impersonating a Hasidic man.
Investigators observe the scene of the fatal shooting. Dennis A. ClarkDixon had recently been incarcerated on drug charges and had $10,000 in cash in his pocket at the time of his murder, law enforcement sources said at the time.
And on Aug. 29, Pablo Antonio Nolasco Gonzalez, 54, of Elmont, Nassau County, was gunned down on Rockaway Boulevard near 99th Street, authorities said.
He succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 20.
A 53-year-old man shot in the same incident was critically hurt, cops said.
Jhovanny Mejia, 31, was arrested months later and charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
