A woman entered a Queens church over the weekend and lay down in its Nativity scene next to a statue of the baby Jesus — then got up and left with the figure in tow, police sources told The Post on Monday.
A 59-year-old church employee told cops that the stranger went to Mary’s Nativity-St. Ann’s Parish on Parsons Boulevard in Flushing around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and lay down among the statuettes before getting up and leaving the church with the fake baby, police sources said.
About two hours later, a man showed up with the statue, which was damaged, sources said.
Police are still looking for the woman, and the incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force as a possible bias crime.
