A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a green taxi while crossing the street in Queens, police sources said.

The taxi sped off, but police caught up with the driver about an hour later a few blocks from the scene.

The woman was struck while walking across the street at 63rd Street and Queens Boulevard and taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

Police took the driver into custody near 97th Place and Junction Boulevard at about 5 p.m., but it was not immediately known what, if any, charges he faced, according to a police spokesman.
