‘Yacht blast’ eyed as hoax
An emergency call of a yacht explosion with 21 people on board off the coast of New Jersey yesterday appears to be a hoax, officials said.
The Coast Guard and other agencies began a massive search about 17 miles east of Sandy Hook after the report came in at around 4:20 p.m. — saying seven were injured and the passengers of the boat, Blind Date, had made it onto life rafts.
But hours later, authorities had yet to find any victims or debris from the yacht.
The Coast Guard said it suspended its search at around 10 p.m.
