An out-of-control parent allegedly struck a youth football coach on the head with a helmet during a game in Connecticut Sunday, a report said.
The chaos erupted in an 8th grade match-up between Norwalk and Fairfield at Brien McMahon High School around 1 p.m., according to police and a report.
While authorities didn’t provide many details on the assault, police communications indicate the coach was knocked unconscious after the parent attacked him, the Norwalk Hour reported.
“He assaulted a coach with a helmet,” a Norwalk cop said over dispatch, according to a recording of the transmission heard on Broadcastify.com, the local outlet reported.
Witnesses also reportedly backed up that the coach was hit with the helmet with one of the officers later telling dispatch, “Just send more units up this way, everyone’s arguing and fighting,” according to the recording.

The Norwalk Junior Football and Cheer League Commissioner Jeff Fatone said in a message to families the assault was an “isolated incident that happened between a parent who made a very bad decision and a coach,” according to the Hour.
He added the coach was improving and expected to recover.

“The Norwalk Police Department has launched a full investigation into this incident, and as a community, we will work to ensure that this unconscionable act never happens again.”
