Noise rock legends Sonic Youth rocked hardcore fans as well as newbies to the now-legendary “No Wave” scene at Prospect Park’s band shell as part of Celebrate Brooklyn’s summer concert series July 31.

The band’s noisy, guitar-laden sound could be heard throughout the park as fans of all ages enjoyed the warm night — though some of the younger “youths” in the crowd thought the volume was a bit too loud.

The band — featuring Kim Gordon on lead vocals and Thurston Moore on violent lead guitar — raced through a set of hits including “Mote” and “Shaking Hell.”

The legendary indie band formed in 1981 and has heavily influenced alternative and indie rock for the past 30 years — the bulk of it from its Brooklyn home base. In all, Sonic Youth has put out 16 studio albums, earning Moore a spot on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of best guitarists of all time.

San Francisco trio Grass Widow and Williamsburg’s own Talk Normal opened.
