New York’s Labor Day misery has a name — Hermine, pronounced “her-MEEN.”

The name of the tropical storm slamming beaches from Long Island to the Jersey Shore is derived from the Greek mythological name Hermione (as played by Emma Watson in “Harry Potter,” inset) used mostly by people of Nordic descent.

About 3,000 Americans are named Hermine.
