The city’s Christmas-tree curbside-collection program begins next Wednesday, Jan. 2, and will run through Saturday, Jan. 12.

All ornaments, tinsel and other decorations must be removed, and the Department of Sanitation says residents should not wrap the trees in plastic bags.

Collected trees will be chipped and turned into compost. The fertilizer will be spread over parks, ball fields and community gardens.
