Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani finally has a meeting booked with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in the “coming weeks,” sources said — ending the wait for possible proof he’ll hold onto the promised powwow.
Mamdani has pledged to keep the well-regarded, tough-on-crime Tisch as his top cop, a move that has helped assuage some fears over his public safety priorities, given he called the NYPD “racist” in 2020.

Tisch has staked several opinions at odds with Mamdani’s stances. Robert MillerA lineup of powerful New Yorkers — such as Gov. Kathy Hochul, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn) and business community bigwig Kathy Wylde — as well as police unions have both publicly and privately pushed the socialist to keep Tisch.
And Tisch herself is facing pressure to take Mamdani’s offer, sources have said.
But the police commish could very well end up being an odd fit in Mamdani’s incoming socialist administration, beyond being a billionaire heiress.
She has vocally opposed aspects of criminal justice reforms that Mamdani supports and backed her current boss Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to increase the NYPD’s headcount to 40,000 officers.
Mamdani has said he intends to keep the headcount at its current depleted level of 34,000.
Tisch, however, has capably served in several mayoral administrations and could very well find herself at home among the veterans of Bill de Blasio’s City Hall who so far are filling up the ranks around the incoming mayor.
An NYPD spokesperson referred The Post to Mamdani’s transition team for questions about Tisch’s meeting with the mayor-elect. The transition team didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
