Ten miners were trapped inside a coal mine in Mexico Thursday morning as rescuers desperately tried to dig them out.

The miners were inside the tunnel Wednesday afternoon when an inner wall collapsed and flooded the mine in the city of Sabinas in Coahuila state, authorities said.

Three miners have been pulled out and sent to area hospitals thus far as a team of emergency personnel, nearly 100 soldiers, specialists and rescue dogs continue the rescue effort for the remaining 10 men.

Family members of the men were waiting at the scene of the collapsed mine for any information on their loved ones, local broadcasts show.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador broke the news of the collapsed mine on Twitter and said nine men were trapped underground. That number was later revised to 10.

“I hope we find them safe,” he tweeted in Spanish.
