Dramatic online videos showed the moment a Michigan dam burst, sending rushing water cascading past its barrier and then into a nearby town.

Two breached dams in Midland County, Michigan, caused by several days of heavy rains forced the evacuation of thousands of residents Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency in locations downstream from the failed Edenville and Sanford dams.

One aerial video of the Edenville Dam shows the structure failing and water from Wixom Lake rushing past the compromised wall into a surrounding tree-filled area.

Another clip, posted to Facebook on Monday by Sheri Gaborik Pawlowski, shows deep floodwater in the area of Billings Township off Wixom Lake, according to Storyful.

Homes can be seen partially submerged in the footage.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency in Midland County after the dams were breached.

“We are anticipating an historic high water level,” Whitmer said.
