A Michigan man accused of beating a police officer with a hockey stick during the riot at the US Capitol was arrested by the FBI Thursday.

Michael Joseph Foy, 29, was charged with crimes including obstruction of law enforcement and forcibly assaulting an officer for his role in the Capitol Hill insurrection on Jan. 6, according to a criminal complaint.

Authorities say the Westland, Michigan, man, was seen in photos and videos carrying a hockey stick and a Trump flag inside and outside the Capitol.

Foy was seen in a video featured in a New York Times article showing him aggressively swinging “the hockey stick at an individual lying on the ground.”

“The article indicates that the video footage was taken during the attack of a law enforcement officer,” the complaint states.

“It further shows the man with the hockey stick lifting the stick above his head
and swinging it down rapidly, striking an individual on the ground several times,” the FBI adds. “At no point does it appear that the individual on the ground is acting aggressively, nor does it appear that the attack is justified.”

In another video posted on YouTube, Foy can be seen attacking a Metropolitan Police officer who had been dragged into a crowd of rioters, with the hockey stick,” the agency says.

More than 100 people have been arrested and charged in connection with the riot that killed five people, according to the Justice Department.
