A Texas middle school student reportedly died after becoming unresponsive at football practice.
Kyrell McBride-Johnson, an eighth grader, was pronounced dead Wednesday after he was rushed to the hospital from Summer Creek Middle School, news station DFW-TV reported.
The 13-year-old was reportedly practicing with the team when he experienced a “medical emergency.”
The coaches performed CPR on the teen to no avail.
He was brought in critical condition to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest and then to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
No cause of death has been released.
School officials said grief counselors would be made available following the student’s death.
“The entire Crowley ISD community is incredibly saddened by this tragedy and the loss of this young life,” a spokesperson told DFW-TV. “We do not yet know what caused Kyrell’s passing, but our priority right now is to provide support and care to the family, friends and educators who knew and loved him.”
