Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said rioters in Minneapolis had begun to resemble a “military operation” and that he was actively weighing whether to accept military and intelligence assistance from The Pentagon.

“The absolute chaos — this is not grieving, and this is not making a statement [about an injustice] that we fully acknowledge needs to be fixed — this is dangerous,” Walz said in an early morning press conference Saturday, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported. “You need to go home.”

“The terrifying thing is that this resembles more a military operation now as you observe ringleaders moving from place to place,” he added. “There are simply more of them than us.”

The visibly drained Democrat said that outside forces, including anarchists, white supremacists and drug cartels, could be fanning the violence, the paper reported.

Friday was the fourth night of chaos, which has escalated consistently since the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on Monday. A curfew and charges of third-degree murder announced Friday failed to stem to bedlam.

President Trump also inserted himself into the fray, warning that if Minnesota officials could not stop the violence, the federal government would step in.

“These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts,” Trump tweeted Friday.
