A missing 9-year-old boy has been found safe after he got lost for two days in the woods in Tennessee without a jacket or shoes, authorities said.

Jordan Gorman had been missing since Sunday from his home in Ashland City, around 23 miles from Nashville, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

When he left home, the boy was barefoot and only wearing a short-sleeve shirt with jeans, authorities said.

Though temperatures dipped as low as 37 degrees, he weathered the cold under a tarp he found and attached to a tree, authorities said.

Rescue teams searched the heavily wooded area until they ultimately discovered his makeshift shelter Tuesday afternoon near a creek bed about three-quarters of a mile from his home.

“As I got close to the tarp and noticed there was a mass in it, naturally the worst was going through my head initially until the tarp moved and it was just the biggest ‘Holy crap, I got him,’ ” Mathew Reese with the Christian County Rescue Team told news station WSMV.

Authorities said Tuesday that Jordan was “cold and hungry, but otherwise in pretty good spirits.”

Jordan’s father, Aaron Hatt, said Jordan is autistic and has been living with a foster family and his biological siblings.

He said he was relieved to find out his son was found safe, though he was shocked by his strength in the ordeal.

“He’s always just been really resilient and an explorer type but to be standing for two days with no jacket, no shoes, no socks,” Hatt said.

“I don’t like going to the living room, let alone outside and walking three-quarters of a mile through the woods with no socks and shoes on, through sticks and rocks, I mean it’s just crazy.”
