A missing California girl has been found safe after she spent more than a week hiding out at a home behind a trap door, authorities said.

Kaylee Arnee, 14, was reported missing Oct. 22 after she was last seen at a friend’s home in West Point, about 67 miles southeast of Sacramento, CBS13 reported.

Her mother told authorities that when a relative went to pick her up from the home, they were told that she had left on foot.

Deputies obtained a warrant Oct. 30 to search the home, where they found her “intentionally hiding” in a closet, Mercury News reported. They also discovered a dirt-floor crawl space, where she had spent some time.

“As deputies continued to search the residence for evidence, they located a hidden ‘trapdoor’ that led to a makeshift sleeping area located on the dirt floor under the house,” authorities said.

“Inside the sleeping area, detectives located bedding and a phone belonging to [the girl].”

The teen was unharmed and reunited with her parents, authorities said.

Three adults living in the home were arrested for allegedly distorting the facts around Kaylee’s disappearance.

Isaiah Haggard, 20, Annie Pearl Abernathy, 41, and Jose Tinocopureco, 34, were charged with providing false information to a peace officer and contributing to delinquency of a minor, the newspaper reported.

Haggard and Abernathy were also hit with an additional charge of felony child endangerment.

It is unclear why the girl was “intentionally hiding.”
