A missing Florida man has been found dead in his Porsche that was submerged in a lake, authorities said.
Todd Locke Johnson, 51, was recovered from the overturned sports car Tuesday morning in Lake Lee in Polk County, news station WFLA reported.
Police had tried to pull over the white 2019 Porsche for speeding Friday evening, but the driver continued fleeing west on Cypress Gardens Boulevard.
Authorities investigating the crash scene believe that speeding may have ultimately played a role in Johnson’s fatal crash.
They said they believe that he was traveling at a high rate of speed when he tried to navigate a turn and lost control.
The car became airborne and struck some trees before landing upside down in the lake, the Daily Ridge reported.
Police said impairment and reckless driving were also factors in the deadly accident.
Johnson had been at a friend’s house earlier Friday in the Orlando area, where he had left his phone behind, WFLA reported.
His family reported him missing, saying they were “deeply concerned since this is highly unusual behavior,” the outlet reported.
