Authorities say one of the three young Pennsylvania kayakers who went missing on Lake Ontario was found dead Tuesday, while the other two made it safely to shore.

The body of a 21-year-old man was discovered by the US Coast Guard along New York’s Orleans County shoreline shortly before 8:50 a.m. – hours after the victim’s twin brother and 18-year-old friend were found alive, The Buffalo News reported, citing State Police.

The surviving kayakers had swum ashore in Point Breeze and went for help at a lakeside home, authorities said.

The trio had been visiting the twin’s grandfather’s house in Barker, New York, along with their friend, State Police Lt. Clyde Doty said.

Cops say the men had set out from the Golden Hill State Park boat launch in Somerset at around noon on Monday, about six hours before they were reported missing.

The men were each in their own green, red and blue kayaks, Doty said.

After the men were reported missing, a search team made up of the Coast Guard and local authorities was then deployed.

Coast Guard officials reported waves being at least three to four feet high throughout the day, with “pretty rough” conditions making it difficult to kayak.

The identities of the men were not immediately released.
