A missing Ohio teen who vanished after witnessing his father’s violent murder last year has been found safe, according to officials.
Jacob Caldwell, 15, was located Monday night in Miami Township more than a year after he went missing on the night of his dad’s funeral, news station WKEF reported.
Authorities said the missing teen was found in the basement of a home where four adults not related to him lived. He was in good health and didn’t appear to be held against his will, news station WHIO reported.
“It was our understanding that he was not outside much. He’s gone a year without school. He’s gone a year without socializing with friends,” Sugarcreek Township Police Chief Michael Brown told the news station. “There was no evidence of him being secured or locked in. I think he could have roamed throughout the house, if he wished.”
Caldwell was removed from the residence and brought to Greene County Juvenile Detention Center in Beavercreek, where a warrant was issued for him in a separate runaway incident.
The teen was reported missing in August 2017 — six days after he saw his dad, Robert Caldwell, fatally shot outside an office building. A federal grand jury indicted six people including the boy’s mother, Tawnney Caldwell, in the murder.
