A Massachusetts woman was arrested for allegedly intentionally driving her SUV into a reservoir — with her three children inside.

Amanda Nappi, on Friday afternoon, drove her 2007 Toyota Highlander deep enough into the Lawton Valley Reservoir that the vehicle was completely submerged, Portsmouth, RI police said.

Authorities were able to safely pull the family from the SUV, and all four were taken to a local hospital.

“Obviously, [the children] were very frightened and scared,” Portsmouth Fire Department Capt. Howard Tigh told WCVB Boston.

The kids, whose ages weren’t made public, were turned over to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

Nappi, 30, was charged with three counts of cruelty or neglect of a child and is being held at the Women’s Adult Correctional Institute in Cranston.
