HANFORD, Calif. — A 40-year-old California woman has been arrested in connection to the death of her 2-month-old daughter.

The Fresno Bee reports Kings County Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics went to a house last week for reports of a child in cardiac or respiratory arrest.

Authorities say initial statements to deputies indicated the baby was found face down on a mattress and might have suffocated, but an autopsy conducted Wednesday by the Kings County coroner revealed blunt-force trauma injuries to the infant’s head, which led to her death.

Detectives believe the woman caused the child’s injuries. She remains in Kings County Jail.
