A Florida mom was shot dead and her 3-year-old daughter was left critically injured in a Sunday night shooting in their Orlando home.
Capucine Carson, 37, was pronounced dead at her Wellesley Apartments home after police responded to reports of gunshots shortly after 11:30 p.m., WKMG-TV reported.
Her young daughter, identified by relatives as Kimbella, was found wounded and taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The dead woman’s sister, Nesha Carson, told the Orlando Sentinel she was on the phone with Capucine at the time of the fatal shooting.
Nesha said she heard her sister arguing on the phone with her partner — who was not identified — then heard the gunshots.
She said Capucine, who had just returned from visiting her in Alabama, told her she was planning to take her young daughter to a hotel instead of spending the night in the apartment she shared with her alleged assailant.
Instead, the mom was gunned down in her own home.
“It’s a lot,” Nesha Carson said. “It’s really hard.”
One witness, who was at the apartment complex visiting a friend at the time, told WKMG she heard the shots ring out.
“I heard, ‘pah, pah, pah,’ four times, and I told my friend, ‘I heard gunshots,'” Mo’nique Keys told the station. “My friend, she stays over here, I just come over to get my nails done, so I was just caught up in the middle of it real quick.”
“Sad,” Keys said. “These people won’t ever put down these guns.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said they know the identity of the alleged shooter and are actively trying to track him down.
