The mother of the man arrested in connection with the disappearance of his estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, died in a freak accident when she was run down by a family employee nearly nine years ago, according to a report.
Fotis Dulos’ mother, Kleopatra Dulos, 77, was reportedly run over in the driveway of her Connecticut home by the family’s 24-year-old nanny in a Sept. 6, 2010, incident, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.
The crash happened after the septuagenarian asked the nanny to move a Land Rover to make it easier for one of her grandkids to climb in, the website reported, citing a 2010 police report.
According to the report, Dulos bent down near the front of the car to make sure the lights were turning on and “the vehicle was moving forward during this span of time.”
“Traffic Unit 1 operator, not familiar with the vehicle began trying to turn the vehicle’s headlights on when she heard a noise but did not think anything of it until she got out of the vehicle and saw Pedestrian 1 lying on the driveway,” the report cited by Daily Mail states. “‘It was apparent to Traffic unit operator 1 that she ran over Pedestrian 1.”
Police said they didn’t believe that this was a “criminal event.” Dulos was taken to the hospital and died shortly afterward.
Three months later, police learned Dulos had died as a result of the accident and went back to interview the driver, who was still employed by the family.
“I assumed that she had moved far away from the vehicle but apparently she had fallen down next to the vehicle and out of my sight,” the nanny reportedly told cops. “I pulled forward and I heard [one of the grandchildren] scream from the backseat.”
The nanny reportedly said she found Kleopatra injured and unconscious in the driveway and that Jennifer Dulos called 911.
Fotis Dulos was also questioned and told cops he was in Italy at the time of the accident. He said his mom fell down a flight of stairs and cracked her head a couple of months before the accident and was still taking painkillers.
“I was told by my wife [Jennifer Dulos] that three days before the accident when I was in Italy [Kleopatra] lost consciousness a couple of times and fell to the floor.”
When asked, he also told cops his mom had no assets or property of value.
Jennifer DulosNew Canaan PoliceDulos, 51, and his gal pal, Michelle Troconis, 44, were arrested over the weekend for allegedly tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in the homicide case of mom of five Jennifer Dulos, 50, who vanished on May 24.
According to court documents, the pair allegedly left a trail of items stained with Jennifer’s blood in roadside trash cans, after she was beaten in her own garage.
Jennifer had filed for divorce in 2017 and accused her husband in court papers of cheating on her. The once-golden couple were battling over finances — with her arguing for more cash and him crying poor — and custody of their children.
