Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad has procured 10 million surgical masks, 25,000 N95 respirator masks, 27 ventilators and 20,000 test kits to help in the country’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports.

The medical equipment, including 700 overalls for ambulance workers, arrived in Israel on Monday under the leadership of its director, Yossi Cohen, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – who went into self-quarantine Monday after an aide tested positive for COVID-19 – announced last week that Cohen took over the country’s efforts in securing the supplies from abroad.

Two weeks ago, he obtained 100,000 test kits and about 4 million additional ones are on the way, according to the news outlet, which reported that the kits were bought from countries that do not have diplomatic ties with Israel.

According to Al Jazeera, the countries are in the Persian Gulf.

At least 160 additional ventilators will arrive in Israel on Wednesday, the Times of Israel reported.

As of Monday, there were 4,347 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Israel, where 15 people have died of the illness.

All Israelis were ordered last week to remain in their homes unless they are engaged in several approved activities, including going to work, buying groceries and medicine, or taking short walks.

Violators are subject to fines or imprisonment.
