An MSNBC guest sickly speculated that the person who shot Charlie Kirk in the neck could have been one of his supporters firing a gun “in celebration.”
“We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration,” MSNBC contributor Matthew Dowd told anchor Katy Tur shortly after Kirk was shot at a Utah university Wednesday.
“We have no idea,” Dowd told the lefty network. “We don’t know any of the full details of this.”

Little information was available about the shooting when Dowd made his comments, but grisly footage was widely available showing the Turning Point USA founder and conservative icon being shot in the neck and collapsing.

The shooter is believed to have fired at Kirk from a building about 200 yards away, Fox News reported.

Dowd later tried to walk back his comments once it became apparent Kirk had been deliberately targeted and executed.
“My thoughts & prayers are w/ the family and friends of Charlie Kirk. On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words,” Down wrote on the social media platform BlueSky.

President Trump was one of the first to announce Kirk died after being shot.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” the president wrote on TruthSocial.
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us,” he continued.
“Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
