WASHINGTON — A day before ISIS announced that US captive Kayla Mueller was killed, the congressman who represents her home district in Arizona introduced a bill to offer a $5 million reward for information on foreign terrorists who kidnap or murder Americans.
The timing was coincidental, said Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.).
But the disclosure Tuesday that ISIS had sent a chilling photo proving the 26-year-old aid worker was dead strengthened his resolve to go after her killers by offering cash, he said.
“Maybe this is a way to get good people to do the right thing,” Gosar told The Arizona Public. “I’m tired of these people existing on the same planet, breathing the same air as I am.’’
Last Thursday, Gosar re-introduced legislation he first put in last November requiring the State Department to offer a $5 million for information leading to the arrest of terrorists who kill or kidnap Americans.
A day later, ISIS said Mueller had been killed in a Jordanian air attack.
The US confirmed her death, but said it came at the hands of ISIS, not an accidental strike by Jordan.
