A Navy sailor opened fire at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding another before killing himself, a Navy spokesperson said.

The sailor began his rampage at about 2:30 p.m. local time, shooting three Department of Defense workers at the Dry Dock 2 on the base, the spokesperson added.

Two of the victims, both men, were later declared dead, authorities said.

After shooting his three victims, the sailor fatally blasted himself, the spokesperson said.

The shipyard was placed on lockdown as medics and law enforcement officials responded to the scene.

One witness said he was at his desk said he saw the shooter wearing a naval uniform, according to Hawaii News Now.

“I kind of recognize that as gunshots,” the witness told the local outlet.

“I looked out in time to see the shooter, who I assume was a sailor because he was in uniform … shoot himself.”

The lockdown was lifted from the shipyard at about 4 p.m., authorities said.

The FBI was aiding the Navy in their investigation, a spokesperson said.
