Two gunmen randomly opened fire at a Miami park on Sunday night, leaving eight people injured, including a 16-year-old boy, police said.
The shooting broke out around 7 p.m. near the basketball courts at Little River Park, according to Miami-Dade police.
“Two individuals walked up toward the area.. and without provocation, drew weapons and started shooting into the crowd,” public information officer Angel Rodriguez told reporters at the scene.
Six of the injured were in critical condition, including the teen, who was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, according to The Miami Herald.
“This is a senseless, heinous crime,” Rodriguez said.
The shooters fled on foot. Officials said it was still too early to determine a motive.
MDPD Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III tweeted that “This type of gun violence has to end.”
“We must work together as a community.”
No other details were immediately available.
