US Navy officials are investigating who secretly recorded service members through a bathroom peephole and posted dozens of the videos on a porn site, according to a report.
The videos, which were shared on Pornhub, captured several sailors and Marines while wearing their uniforms with visible name patches, two military officials told NBC News.
The people were seen changing their clothes, but the officials said they were unaware of any sexual acts. Some civilians also were recorded, they added.
An agent from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service discovered the videos on the adult site earlier this month, NBC News reported.
Some of the people captured in the videos were assigned to the USS Emory S. Land, a ship that supplies submarines and is assigned to a port in Guam, the officials said.
It was unclear when the videos were recorded.
NCIS agents have begun notifying the people identified in the footage but the investigation is continuing.
Spokespersons for the NCIS and the Pacific Fleet did not respond to requests for comment by NBC News.
Pornhub Vice President Blake White told The Post that the site received a removal request from the NCIS and that it complied.
“We are currently working alongside them to assist them with their investigation. Here at Pornhub, we immediately remove any content that violates our terms of use as soon as we are made aware of it,” he said in an email.
He added that “users can flag content for review directly on video pages.”
“We also employ an extensive team that continuously scans for and proactively removes content that breaches our terms, and we utilize Vobile, a state of the art third party fingerprinting software, which scans any new uploads for potential matches to unauthorized material to ensure the original video doesn’t go back up on the platform,” White said.
In 2018, the Canada-based porn-sharing site received a staggering 33.5 billion visits, more than four times the population of Earth, according to Tech Crunch.
This is not the first time that military personnel have been targeted by voyeurs who sought to share nude photos of them online.
In 2017, the US Marine Corps launched a probe after hundreds of revealing images of female service members from every military branch had been posted online, according to Insider.com.
The investigation led to a change in Marines and Navy laws banning revenge porn.
Those who are found to have shared an “intimate image” of a fellow service member without their consent can face consequences ranging from administrative punishments to criminal actions.
