A Georgia man whose home neighbored the residence where an 11-year-old girl went missing was arrested in her murder, officials said.

Christopher Wayne Madison, 33, faces capital murder charges after Amberly Alexis Barnett’s body was discovered 200 yards behind his home Saturday in Mt. Vernon, news station WXIA reported.

The 11-year-old was last seen around 6 p.m. Friday at her aunt’s home, which is next door to where Madison lives, officials said.

Her family went to pick up dinner from a Chinese restaurant, but when they returned Amberly was gone, according to WXIA.

They reported her missing and authorities launched an overnight search, which ended around 6:30 a.m. when cadaver dogs found her dead behind the suspect’s home.

A preliminary investigation suggested the young girl died from strangulation, authorities said.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said the agency won’t be releasing more details as they investigate the murder.

“The road to justice is my main concern and our staff’s main concern,” Welden said during a press conference. “I know people demand answers — social media, media and so forth — but I took this job to be professional and do my job to the best of my ability. That being said, our main focus is justice for a sweet angel that gained her wings.”
