A New Hampshire man was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail for helping his 19-year-old roommate kill himself with a gun, according to a report.

Parker Hogan had been convicted of aiding the May 2018 suicide of Michael Buskey in Plymouth and falsifying evidence by wiping his fingerprints off the suicide weapon, news station WMUR reported.

Prosecutors said Hogan had brought Buskey the shotgun used in the death and instructed him on how to work it.

“This defendant knew he was committing a crime when he was assisting Mikey Buskey to take his own life,” County Deputy Attorney Paul Fitzgerald said, according to WMUR.

But Hogan’s lawyers argued that he didn’t act in bad faith.

“Parker was struggling with his own mental health,” defense attorney Charlotte Robinson said. “Parker did not act maliciously, but we do recognize that Parker did not handle Mikey’s struggles in the right way.”

As part of his sentence, Hogan will serve five years on probation and will be required to undergo a mental health evaluation, WMUR reported.
