New Jersey cops broke up two large weddings this week that went ahead in violation of officials’ warnings against large gatherings, according to a new report.

Police busted up both celebrations — one at Fountain Ballroom and the other at Lake Terrace, both in Lakewood — around 8 p.m. Tuesday and reminded venue staff of Gov. Phil Murphy’s order banning gatherings of more than 50 people, NJ.com reported.

All guests and workers were forced to leave, Lakewood police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith told the outlet.

The raids came the same day two large Hasidic weddings in Brooklyn were shut down.

Lakewood authorities plan to send reminders to local venues about size limits in the coming weeks and strictly enforce the requirements, the police official said.

The township attorney is looking into whether any local ordinances would allow officials to fine or somehow penalize those who hold large gatherings during the outbreak, Lakewood Township Mayor Raymond Coles told NJ.com.

“You’d hope you wouldn’t have to with everything going on in the news,” he said. “But if we stop this thing from spreading now, then we can get back to our lives more quickly. … We need to respect the restrictions.”

But Coles said both venues where the weddings were shut down Tuesday assumed that the governor’s restrictions had not yet gone into effect.

He also expressed concerns for the township’s Orthodox Jewish community, for whom gatherings are a significant part of their religion and daily life.
