ROME — Terrorists in Benghazi, Libya, opened fire on the car of the Italian consul, who escaped injury, officials in Rome and Libya said yesterday.
A security detail traveling with Consul Guido De Sanctis returned fire, but the gunmen who were driving in a car alongside De Sanctis’ convoy sped away, a Libyan official said.
Benghazi was the scene of an attack that killed four Americans in September.
