An Australian woman who was burned over most of her body in New Zealand’s White Island volcano eruption has emerged from a coma — only to learn her husband and daughter were killed in the blast.
Lisa Dallow, who was among 47 people touring the doomed island during the Dec. 9 eruption, had been in an induced coma at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne until her family said she came out of it, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported Monday.
The eruption killed 21 people, including her husband, Gavin Dallow, 53, and the couple’s only daughter, 15-year-old Zoe Hosking.
Gavin Dallow’s funeral was held Jan. 10 in front of 600 mourners while his wife was still in a coma.
Their daughter’s funeral has yet to be held, the news network said.
The family was on a tour of the island during a day trip from the Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas cruise ship. Like the Dallows, most of the tourists were Australian.
A spokesperson at Alfred Hospital told the outlet that Dallow is in serious but stable condition.
