Backlash has erupted on social media against the Israeli news anchor whose question sent Monica Lewinsky storming out in the middle of an interview.
The Twittersphere on Tuesday was calling on Channel 2 reporter Yonit Levi to apologize to Lewinsky for asking her whether she expects an apology from former President Bill Clinton for their 1998 affair.
“Great job Yonit Levi @LeviYonit with your ‘thoughtful’ journalism (SARCASM, look it up in the dictionary) when you were clearly told of the parameters but ignored them. You were WRONG & should apologize appropriately. #TeamMonica,” @LadyTi88 tweeted.
In a statement released afterward, Lewinsky said she cut the interview short because Levi asked the question, despite it being off topic as per an agreement between the two.
“If there was a pre interview agreement to NOT go there, she should have walked off the stage. Good for her, and shame on Yonit Levi for breaking that agreement,” wrote @CDChambers62.
Others were a little more level-headed.
“Ugh. Sorry this happened to you. I’ve been there. With the SAME news company,” @dorothyofisrael tweeted to Lewinsky. “I hope you know that not all Israeli media is like that. Many benefited from your talk — and support the action you took to take a stand against what Yonit Levi did. Thank you [for] the great work you do. ”
