Courageous writers and editors at the Capital Gazette produced a Friday edition of their paper, just hours after their newsroom was shot up by a murderous madman.
The grim headline “5 shot dead at The Capital” dominated Page 1, under color pictures of the five victims of Thursday’s newsroom massacre.
Hours after the deadly shooting spree, reporter Chase Cook defiantly tweeted, “I can tell you this: We are putting out a damn paper tomorrow.”
And they did.
The Annapolis paper is owned by the same company that runs the Baltimore Sun. It wasn’t immediately clear where Capital Gazette journalists worked on Thursday night to produce their Friday paper.
The newspaper tweeted Thursday night: “From the moment gunfire rang out at the Capital Gazette newsroom, journalists there began covering their own tragedy.”
