A North Carolina teen was gunned down outside a funeral service at a church in a drive-by shooting targeting mourners, police said.

Fredrick Cox Jr., 18, was fatally shot Sunday afternoon outside Living Water Baptist Church in High Point, where mourners were paying their respects to another “young man,” police told the Raleigh News & Observer.

Cox was pronounced dead at the scene, while several other people suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police said they arrived to find several vehicles “fleeing at a high rate of speed” from the fatal shootout.

“Officers were informed by witnesses that multiple shots were fired from the two vehicles toward unknown persons in the crowd who had just exited the church,” police said, adding that the mourners fired back at the vehicles.

Officers uncovered around 60 to 70 shell casings from multiple weapons outside the church.

“Due to the amount of gunfire and size of the property, investigators treated the incident as three different scenes, at and around the church,” police said.

Police said they’re still looking for the shooters, who they believe sped away in at least two different vehicles — a “newer model” Dodge Charger and a white four-door car.

“High Point Police detectives are still in the process of actively investigating this violent and brazen crime,” authorities said.
